  • Look to the Lord to help with ‘soul pain’ suffering

How many times have we gone through very difficult times in our lives; — being in a car accident, going to the hospital for an emergency or having an accident at work or at home. With time we find a way to overcome them, but they always leave us with scars.

But there are other kinds of pain, like when parents get a divorce, having a family member in jail, when someone special in our lives passes away, having a family member that’s an alcoholic or a drug addict.

  • ‘I am the Good Shepherd’

We continue celebrating the Easter Season, full of joy and gratitude for the gift of salvation we have received in Christ Jesus.

This past Sunday in our church we focused on the gospel of St. John 10:11-18. Jesus said, “I am the Good Shepherd.” I remember learning that the image of Jesus as Shepherd was the one first used in the early church. The faithful of the pristine church understood from lived experience the horror of the Roman death sentence.

  • Generosity shown in the land of parking lots

“Would you like coffee?” is a common enough question. When asked this question in a friend’s home, and with an eye to being mischievous, I often respond, “Who made it?”

  • This is good: God’s love is unconditional in both the good, not so good times

The story is told of a king in Africa who had a close friend with whom he grew up. The friend had a habit of looking at every situation that ever occurred in his life (positive or negative) and remarking, “This is good!”
