  • Are you his disciple?

Jesus, the Son of God, has been given sovereign authority in heaven and on earth, and it is he and he alone, who sits on the throne of his universe. Jesus the Christ is the only one who has the authority and power to send his disciples out into this world to be a witness for him. The Psalmist said in 115:3, But our God is in the heavens: He hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.

We must never forget that we are under the total authority of Jesus the Christ.

  • Lest I forget

I have been blessed with a terrible memory.

It’s a blessing because I don’t remember things that haunt other people with better memories. I can’t remember most of the fights I’ve had with my husband or kids, or hurtful things people have said or done.

However, I also can’t remember people’s names or my passwords and PINs or what I went into the kitchen to do or came to the store to buy.

  • Mommy, you aren’t holding a hand

Isaiah 41:13 English Standard Version (ESV)

13 For I, the Lord your God,
        hold your right hand;
it is I who say to you, “Fear not,
I am the one who helps you.”

Recently when praying the closing prayer of our worship service, our small group gathered and held hands as to pray our closing prayer together. As we began to pray a small child’s voice spoke and said:

  • God fix this, please!

Years ago I read about a college student in the middle of final exams, distracted and distraught because her mother was ill and she wanted to be home with her.

The mom assured her daughter that she was fine, that she would be OK.

After her last exam, the college student raced home, and as she walked in to see her mom, her mom opened her eyes, smiled -- and died.

It was the day before the young woman’s 21st birthday.

  • Generosity comes in many forms

On Christmas Eve, Nathan thought it would be nice to buy his wife a little gift for the next day. Always tight with his money, he thought long and hard about what that present might be. Unable to decide, Nathan entered a store in the mall and over in the cosmetics section he asked the girl, ‘How about some perfume for my wife for Christmas?’  The clerk showed him a bottle costing $150. “That’s way too expensive,” Nathan said.
