  • ‘Of course I’m right’

Years ago I wrote a book about idols, which is just another word for sin.

An idol is whatever you turn to first — a person, possession, position, relationship, substance, belief or experience — for comfort, security, identity, meaning, etc. Basically, anything other than God.

As I wrote the book, I got halfway through it and decided I was tired of being smacked upside the head with my own idolatry.

Sheesh. All I wanted to do was write about other people’s idols/sin and make a boatload of money.

  • Intern shares passion for music, worshipping God

    By SARAH BEACH

    The News-Democrat

Relevant Church’s summer intern has a passion for music. Though his family is musically inclined, Tom Casselman was never very active in music until his freshman year of high school. He never thought he would go to Bible College, either.

Now, he leads the congregation of Relevant Church in services twice weekly, playing the piano for the service and leading the members in singing hymns.

  • Christians grow in faith through the word of God

I have to admit it. I too, fell victim to one of those fad diets. Honestly, I don’t even know that someone could classify it as a fad diet due to the lack of participants. It was one of those many ideas that initially sounded good and made sense, but in time, revealed itself to be foolish.

  • Regret: A road map

Nothing is so bewildering as the failure of good intentions.

You know the routine. Opportunities that seem so logical and advantageous at the time begin to melt and rot under closer inspection. Peel a few more layers and you see signs of impulsiveness and selfishness. Then the consequences set in. As if the lingering harm of bad decisions is not enough, there is the “Why? Why? Why?” we take to bed at night. Whether you measure regret in ounces or pounds, there is nothing to compare to its weight.

  • Where’s your umbrella?

Television interviewer and journalist Larry King describes three farmers who gather daily in a field during a horrible drought. The men are down on their knees, looking upward and praying the skies will open and pour forth a much-needed rain.

  • Founding fathers guaranteed Americans religious freedoms
