  • The Carroll County Public Library will be presenting Sign-Up for Summer Reading 2015. June 1-5. Children of all ages are welcome to sign-up to begin your reading logs. Weekly prizes will be awarded for progress and all logs will be turned in by July 24. For more information call the library, (502) 732-7020.

  • The 2015 Carroll County Fair is in full swing!

    As you and your family walk through the fairgrounds and take in all the sights and sounds of the carnival and events, be sure to stroll on down to the livestock barns.  We have a lot still in store for the last three days of the county fair.

    The remaining livestock shows are as follows:

    Thursday, June 11 – Goat:

    Weigh-in at 4 p.m., show at 6 p.m.

    Friday, June 12 – Sheep:

    Weigh-in at 4 p.m., show at 6 p.m.

    Carrollton Lions Club meets at noon at General Butler State Resort Park.

    Carroll County Water District No. 1 meets at 3 p.m. at the office, 205 Main Cross St., Ghent.

    Carroll County Tobacco Festival Committee meets, 6:30 p.m., at Welch’s Riverside Restaurant.

  • VBS at English Baptist

    English Baptist Church, 3449 Hwy. 389 in English, will hold Vacation Bible School from Monday through Friday, June 15-19, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. All are welcome.

    Worthville Christian hosts yard sale

  • Peace is fleeting these days. We can hardly count on two days in a row without heartbreaking reporting of conflict and death. The next you know we’ll be reading about vipers invading our playgrounds.

    Actually, that is a good sign.

    As the prophet Isaiah tells it, there is an age of peace coming, and one of the signs of this age is the absence of age-old conflicts and fears. Like snakes.

  • The Carroll County Retired Teachers Association met May 15, at Two Rivers Restaurant with 10 members present. The minutes from the March meeting and the treasurer’s report were read and approved.
