Veteran’s Service Officer Jim Jupin will be at the American Legion, 123 Fifth St., 1-4 p.m.

Karalee Bessinger had planned on a career in scientific research, but it turned out what she was most interested in was people and medicine.

After earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky, the Georgetown, Ky., native made a bold decision. She enrolled in medical school at the University of Louisville, where she graduated in 2009.

Being a Wildcats fan, “Dad had a hard time with that,” she said.

What started as a way to get a job in education became life’s work for Margaret Brown Walker.

The retired Carroll County High School special education teacher was born in Lexington, but moved to Carrollton in 1952 with her family when her father, Jim Brown, decided to open a retail lumber company in town. During that time, her mother, Caroline, taught health and physical education at Carrollton High School for four years.
