I am planning a brunch for about 50 friends to be held in about a month. I am working on my menu now, trying to decide just what to have from the hours of 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

I want it to be very simple, but really nice. I don’t want to spend a lot of time cooking and I also want some simple things that friends can help me prepare because I don’t want them to have to work too hard.

The oppressive arctic conditions that prevailed throughout the Ohio River Valley and along the river’s tributaries in the winter of 1918 continued late into January. By Jan. 20, many rural and small community schools had been forced to close due to extreme cold and deep snow. It was almost impossible for students on the farms to make their way to the school houses.

Do you have pictures on your camera and you are not sure about the next step?

We will be talking about saving and transferring pictures to computer. The next steps would be editing pictures and then getting them printed. We will be covering those topics this Saturday, Feb. 26 from 10 a.m. until noon at the Extension office.

Please bring pictures and if you want a laptop computer. I will have a couple of extra computers for the attendees to use.

Managing calving season

Do you yearn for the wonderful cream candy made by your grandmother or mother in days gone past? If so, you can learn to make it yourself.
 
On Thursday, Feb. 24, we are having a cream candy making class from 6-8 p.m. at the Extension office, 500 Floyd Drive in Carrollton.

This class was originally planned for November, but due to an illness by our instructor it had to be postponed. Even though the weather is getting warmer, we still wanted to offer this class.
