  • Staff Sgt. Jason L. Johnson, of Kileen, Texas, the son of Jimmy Johnson of Carrollton, has retired after serving his country for more than 20 years in the Marine Corps. His personal awards include the Navy/Marine Commendation Medal; he has earned  the Marine Corps Achievement Medal three times. He is married to Jessica Johnson of Kileen, Texas. they have four children, Jonathan, 14; Eric, 12; Hailey, 9; and Maverick, 5.

  • Paul Kemper and Connie Kemper are happy to announce the recent wedding of their daughter, Zoe Kemper, all of Carrollton, Ky., to Jeffrey Zuber of Piscataway N.J., son of Frank and Kuman Zuber.

    The bride and groom were married at the Torrey Pines Hilton in La Jolla, Calif., on March 31, 2012. The bride’s maid of honor was Chrissy Dunn of Covington, Ky., and her bridesmaids included Jordan Daniel of Bowling Green, Ky.; Cathy Zuber Puckett of Atlanta, Ga.; and Lesley Logan of Los Angeles, Calif.

  • We continue celebrating the Easter Season, full of joy and gratitude for the gift of salvation we have received in Christ Jesus.

    This past Sunday in our church we focused on the gospel of St. John 10:11-18. Jesus said, “I am the Good Shepherd.” I remember learning that the image of Jesus as Shepherd was the one first used in the early church. The faithful of the pristine church understood from lived experience the horror of the Roman death sentence.

  • Calvary Full Gospel to host Bob Marland

    Bob Marland of Chicago will sing at 10 a.m., Sunday, May 6, at Calvary Full Gospel Church, which meets at Westside Fire Deptartment in Prestonville.

    Monthly hymn sing set for Hopewell church

    Trimble County Hymn Sing will be held the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. The next meeting will be held Thursday, May 3 at Hopewell Community Church, on Locust Rd. in Carroll County.

  • Moving houseplants outside in late spring or early summer is good for them because they get better air circulation and light exposure. This also is a good time to repot your container-bound plants.

    Wait to move plants outdoors until at least mid- to late-May, or when the weather is consistently warm.  Since most houseplants have a tropical origin, temperatures below 40 to 45 degrees Fahrenheit might damage them.

  • Carroll County Extension Homemakers will travel to Danville to the Great American Dollhouse Museum Wednesday, May 9. While there, they will also do some touring of the Danville area. The group departs the Carroll county Cooper-ative Extension office at 9 a.m., and returns around 5 p.m. There are still spaces available on the trip.
