  • After our first snowfall in November, it is easy to start thinking about winter storms when winter has not even officially arrived, due to the calendar.  It is hard to tell if there will be many winter storms from year to year, but each year we should make sure that we are prepared for winter storms.

    Winter storms typically have low temperatures and are sometimes accompanied by ice, sleet, freezing rain, and snow.

    Westside Volunteer Fire Department, 680 Carlisle St., in Prestonville, will hold their annual “Christmas for Kids”, silent auction starting at 6 p.m. and spaghetti dinner at 7 p.m., dinner includes spaghetti, garlic bread, cookie and drink. Adult dinner is $5 per plate and children, $3 per plate.

  • If your concern is for your kids to behave, it’s hard to beat the leverage of Christmas.

    Kids live with a December pressure to “be good” at all costs, especially as being good might be tied to a certain someone’s Naughty or Nice List. As kids seem to know, in our modern version of Christmas “good” is directly correlated to gifts: be good, get gifts.

  • Carroll County Public Library is allowing patrons to pay off their late fees and lost item charges by donating food to the Food Pantry of Carroll County, Inc. This year to help balance current stocks of food at the pantry, the library will be accepting specific items each week at the request of the organization. Each item will deduct $5 in late fees or charges.
