The Carrollton United Methodist Church, 310 Highland Avenue, invites everyone to celebrate Christmas by joining them for their Christmas Eve Candlelight Service of Lessons and Carols at 8 p.m. on Dec. 24. This traditional ervice is filled with charm and warmth as scripture readings are tightly interwoven with twenty-six carols that include just a touch of Handel and Bach.

One of my favorite children’s book and Christmas TV special is “How The Grinch Stole Christmas.” I have watched this show faithfully for years.
We all know the story, the Grinch despises the Who’s down in Whoville with their Christmas celebration. The Grinch hates all the “Noise, Noise, Noise” from the toys and their singing.  Then he came up with the “wonderful” idea to stop Christmas from coming.

Hugh Shobert from Norman, Okla. was in the Army and stationed at Fort Knox when a friend arranged a blind date for Hugh with Leoma Lawrence who lived and operated her own beauty shop in St. Matthews, near Louisville. They were married by the justice of the peace on Dec. 25, 1945, in Jeffersonville, Ind.
Leoma sold her beauty shop  and they drove to Fort Ord in Monterey Bay, Calif. where Hugh was then stationed. Hugh was discharged from the Army, February 6, 1946.
