  • The Carrollton Woman’s Club met at Pats’ Place, Tuesday, March 6 at 7 p.m. with Fifth District Gov. Karen Moreland from Williamstown as the guest, along with both Sandra Thomas and Julia O’Neal from the Ghent Woman’s Club.

    Nancy Jo Grobmyer was hostess at the meeting and gave a devotional reading quotation from “The Wisdom of Women.” Karen Claiborne, vice-governor of Fifth District was also at the meeting.

  • I have mentioned in many of my past columns, with very fond memories, of the years we lived in Henryville, Ind.

    Words cannot describe what my whole family feels about the devastation they have gone through, and yet they have picked themselves up and are going forward as best they can. Even though we moved many times when our children were growing up (due to job transfers), our children consider it their hometown.

  • Each year, March is designated as National Nutrition Month by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, formerly the American Dietetic Association. Americans are encouraged to return to the basics of healthy eating with this year’s theme “Get Your Plate in Shape.”

  • The dates for 4-H Camp have changed to Monday, July 2 to Thursday, July 5. Camper applications are now available at the Carroll County Extension Office.

    The age for campers is 9-13. All campers must be age 9 by July 2, 2012. The cost of camp is $165 per camper.

    Applications and payment are due to the Extension office no later than May 30. Please do not delay in getting in your application, for there are a limited number of camper spots.

    Adult counselors, junior counselors and counselors in training are also needed.

    AA Big Book study groups meets every Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Carrollton Christian Church, 310 Fifth St.

    Carrollton Lions Club meeting at noon at Butler Park lodge.

    Carroll County Water District No. 1 meets at 3 p.m. at the office, 205 Main Cross St., Ghent.

    Carroll County Board of Education meets 5 p.m. in the middle school media center.

  • The Kentucky Council of Area Development Districts named Carroll County Judge-Executive Harold “Shorty” Tomlinson as Treasurer for 2012-13 during their board meeting Feb. 9, at the Capitol Annex.

  • I am very excited to announce a new ministry that is just getting off the ground here in Carrollton.  

    The Carroll County Ministerial Association has been working with the National Headquarters of Veterans Affairs to cate a training event to equip us with the spiritual tools necessary to reach out to our veterans.

  • The Kroger Relay for Life team thanks all the cutie pies that participated in this year’s Cutie Pie Contest. They raised $500 for the cause.

    First place girls: Brinna Stark, daughter of Timmy and Mallory Stark; second place, Evangeline Reynolds, daughter of Steve and Brittany Reynolds; and third place, Chloe Jean Harlamert, daughter of Samantha and Vince Harlamert.
    First place boys: Dawsen Roden, son of John and Jennifer Roden; second place, Darian Beach, son of James and Amy Brown; and third place, Brayden Chambers, son of Johnny Chambers.
