  • Nicholas and Amanda Isaacs of Bedford, Ky. would like to announce the birth of their daughter, Madilyn Ruth Isaacs, born Jan. 22, 2012, at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville, Ky.

    She weighed 6 pounds 12 ounces and was 19 ¾ inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are Jerry and Debra Smith of Bedford.

    Paternal grandparents are Don and Brenda Isaacs of Springville, Ind. and Rosalie Isaacs of Nashville, Tenn.

  • We have just ended a wonderful week with my cousin and his wife who were visiting us from California. We were in a constant whirlwind — sightseeing and eating out.

  • Luckhardt Inc Farm, located in Ghent, has been recognized nationally by the American Angus Association for having two registered Angus cows included in the Association’s 2012 Pathfinder Report.

    Only 2,027 of the nearly 30,000 American Angus Association members are represented in this year’s report, according to Bill Bowman, chief operating officer and director of performance programs of the Association with headquarters in Saint Joseph, Mo.

  • A Shiitake mushroom demonstration will take place at the home of Dan and Perla Harkins in Trimble County at 1:30 p.m. March 8. 

    Organ-ized through the Trimble County Cooper-ative Exten-sion Service, the demonstration will involve inoculating logs with shiiktake mushroom spore.

    Tobacco production update

  • Our area was hit by tornadoes and other severe weather last week. Many families and individuals had homes, farms and businesses damaged,  including weather damage, power outages and numerous other loses.

    If you have had power outages and were without electricity or a cold source, foods stored in refrigerators and freezers can become unsafe. Bacteria in food grow rapidly at temperatures between 40 and 140 degrees. If these foods are eaten, people can become very sick.
