  • Carroll County Chamber of Commerce is seeking entries for the Dec. 3 Carrollton Christmas parade, part of A Christmas Carroll.

    Businesses, churches and local organizations are encouraged to take part in the event. It is free to enter.

    Decorate with a Christmas theme. Business prizes include advertising totalling $300 from WKID-FM, $200 from The News-Democrat and $150 from WIKI-FM. Prizes are $100 and a trophy in church and youth divisions.

  • I hope you had a safe and fun Halloween. We certainly did at the Bealls home in Ghent.  Every year we sit out in their carport, wrapped up in coats and blankets and enjoy all of the trick-or-treaters.

  • Carroll County resident Becky Lee Meadows, Ph.D. signed a book publishing contract with Cambria Press this month. The publishing company has agreed to publish her book, “The Consciousness of Damnation: A Hermeneutical Phenomenology of the Fall of the Self in Matthew Lewis’s The Monk.”

  • Health insurance coverage is a top priority for many people.  Medicare is health insurance available for people over the age of 65 as well as those under the age of 65 with certain disabilities. The primary Parts of Medicare are A, B and D. 

    Part A is known as hospital coverage and assists with expenses for inpatient care and skilled nursing facility, hospice and home health care.

  • Two species of vultures, commonly called buzzards, are found in Kentucky:  the turkey vulture and the black vulture.  Both birds are scavengers—animals that feed on carrion (the carcass of a dead animal).  The presence of these birds is a natural and necessary occurrence.
