  • The Carrollton Woman’s Club met at General Butler State Resort Park Lodge at noon on Dec. 7, 2010, for the annual Christmas luncheon. Members Dorothy Buckner and Carolyn Stout served as hostesses and had decorated the tables with poinsettias and greenery. Guests of the club were Julie Lewis, Alice Long, Susan McEuen, Donna Parrish and Pat Perkins.

    Karen Claiborne, Vice Governor of the district presided and members told what each remembered as Christmas memories during World War II.

  • Nicki and Jason Beckham would like to announce the birth of their son, Ryan Charles Beckham, born Sept. 19, 2010, at Norton Suburban Hospital in Louisville, Ky. He weighed 7 pounds 9 ounces and was 20 inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are David Morgan of Milton, Ky. and C.W. and Angela Courtney of Carrollton, Ky. maternal  great-grandparents are Sue Morgan of Carrollton and the late Charles Morgan, maternal step-great-grandparents are Dorothy Courtney and the late C.W. Courtney.

  • The Carroll County Cattlemen’s Meeting that I mentioned in my article for Jan. 6 will now be Jan. 27 as part of the presentation by Ray Smith about decisions and options for our pastures and hay fields following the drought. 

    There will be a meal starting at 6 p.m. with the forage program starting at 7 p.m.

    Small ruminant production is on the rise in Kentucky, as farmers realize the potential of raising sheep and goats in the commonwealth.

  • Did you receive a “gift card” for Christmas this year? If so, your card is one of around $100 billion gift cards given yearly.

    Gift cards have increased yearly since they were first introduced, but many are never used. As one study showed, “27 percent of people receiving gift cards had not used them nearly a year later.” In 2006, $8 billion worth of gift cards were never used.

  • During the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons of 110 years ago residents of Carrollton, Prestonville and surrounding environs were enjoying the excitement of having a new, state of the art bridge across the Kentucky River. Gone was the dependence on river ferries to connect east Carroll countians with those in the west.

  • The community is invited to celebrate the 80th birthday of Sr. Theodore Nolan, known as Sr. Teddy, at an open house from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, in the St. John Parish Hall, 503 Fifth St. in Carrollton.
