  • Four members of the Carroll County FFA Chapter competed in a welding competition sanctioned by the Northern Kentucky Region of FFA, held in the Carroll County High School agriculture mechanics lab. The members competing included Billy Mertz II, Jordan Gibson, Ronnie Knight and Travis Spenneberg.

    The competition was won by the Spencer County FFA Chapter, but the contest was not given to them. They beat Carroll County only by 0.32 of 1 point. Spencer County scored 231.34 to Carroll County’s 231.02.

  • Sam and Kim Boozer of Chattanooga, Tenn. announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Amber Dawn Boozer to Brian Keith Rose, son of Lisa Ann Hughes of Carrollton and the late Tommy Rose.
    The wedding will be held 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, at Talon Winery, 7086 Tates Creek Road in Lexington, Ky. A reception will be held in their honor immediately following.
    All family and friends are invited to attend.

  • It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Are you ready?

    Our Christmas will be very simple this year and I am so glad. The last few years have been so busy with my catering that I did not have much time to do things for others.

    This year is already different. I have been baking up a storm, but only so that I may give special gifts to my friends. I am having so much fun.

    Carroll County Fiscal Court meets at 9 a.m. on the second floor of the courthouse in downtown.

    Carrollton Rotary Club meets at noon at General Butler State Resort Park.

    Carroll County Public Library holds Wednesdays @ One, 1 p.m.

    Carroll County High School Site Based Decision Making Council meets at 4 p.m. in the high school conference room.

    Narcotics Anonymous meets at 6:30 p.m. every Thursday at Carrollton Christian Church, 310 Fifth St.

  • There are a few of you out there anxious for children in Carroll County still without December gifts. Rest easy. The Christmas Crews (and there are too many of them to name here) are pulling off minor miracles for children and families, and virtually hundreds of kids and households are rightly anticipating a memorable holiday. If you participated in one of the many efforts for Christmas, I thank you.

    But I hope you might consider a January gift for a child.

  • The University of Kentucky has made a decision to shut down non-essential units Dec. 21-23 as a cost-saving measure.

  • With the holiday season upon us, many of us are shopping for presents for children.

  • Festival of Homes

    Carroll County Middle School will feature “Festival of Homes”  to benefit Relay for Life on Thursday, Dec. 9, from 5-9 p.m. Homes featured will be Ms. Debbie Robby and Mr. and Mrs. Joey Vance. Also featured are Highland House Bed and Breakfast, David Hendren’s Sycamore Plantation and J T Ellis Banquet Hall.

    Tickets are $5 each and may be purchased at First National Bank, Carrollton Federal Bank, The Cutting Edge Hair Salon, KFB Insurance (Todd Grace’s office) and Butler Park Gift Shop.
