  • The New Year in Christian circles begins four weeks before Christmas. We call this season of preparation Advent, which simply means “coming.”

On each of the four Sundays of Advent, we light one of the four candles on the Advent wreath. It is a symbol of looking forward to the coming of Jesus. As the light on the wreath grows, so does our joy and anticipation for the feast of Christmas.

  • Homes for cats and kittens are one of Carroll County Animal Support’s toughest tasks.

It is CCAS policy that the animals will be “fully vetted” (meaning they will be either spayed or neutered and have all up-to-date shots) before they are adopted.

Dog adoptions require both an approved adoption application and an adoption fee.

As cats and kittens are difficult to get adoption fees for, the group gets donations to have the cat “fully vetted.”

This ensures that CCAS cats will not be producing more cats.

  • You may wonder what I have been doing since my last column.  I can honestly tell you…everything. I’ve taken up knitting again, which I probably haven’t done for more than 30 years. It really helps with the evening snacking issue, too. Who wants to get their hands all gooey with something sweet and knit at the same time? Me!
