  • The Three Rivers District Health Department advises homeowners to begin preparing now for summer mosquito season by ridding their environments of potential mosquito breeding areas.

    Mosquitoes are a common insect in Kentucky, particularly in the warmer months. Besides being a nuisance, some mosquitoes are known to carry diseases. You should take steps to protect yourself and your loved ones from potential exposures by reducing possible breeding locations in and around your home.

  • The Carroll County Public Library summer reading program hosted Extreme Family Game Night with Jonathon Heart, June 2. It was the first of 30 events scheduled through July 28. There were 67 people in attendance.

  • Several insects reliably appear in force following a series of spring rains, like we have experienced this year. For the most part, they are short-lived, so control measures are rarely needed. Here are a few that we may come across:

    Gnats

    Many species of non-biting gnats develop in moist decaying organic matter, temporary mud pools, and ponds. Hordes of adults can emerge suddenly. While they resemble mosquitoes, they lack the long beak of the closely-related blood feeders.
