  • James D. Black, 84

    James D. Black, 84, of Bedford, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at Baptist Hospital Northeast in La Grange.

    Born July 5, 1924, he was the son of the late Thomas Black and Frieda Chandler Black Tingle

    He served in the Navy during WW II. He was employed at the Proving Grounds. He was mayor of the city of Bedford for more than 18 years, served as Bedford Fire Chief and was the first EMT for Trimble County. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #158 where he recently received his 60-year pin. He was a member of the Bedford Baptist Church.

    Shirie J. Downs Cottongim, 63, of Bedford, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008 in Louisville.

    Born in Jefferson County Feb. 13, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Ira Thomas Downs and Edith Mildred Childs Downs Jones.

    She graduated from Cumberland College and Georgetown College, receiving a degree in Secretarial Science.

  • Narthanial Wayne Hammonds, 16

    CARROLLTON, Ky. – Nathanial “Nate” Wayne Hammonds, 16, of Carrollton died, Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008, in Worthville, Ky.

    Nate was born April 7, 1992, in Madison, Ind., to Kenneth Johnson and Kimberly Sue (Wilson) Kopp of Carrollton.

    He was a sophomore at Carroll County High School. He played  defensive end and linebacker for the Panther football team.

  • Joseph S. 'J.C.' Bray Jr., 91

    Joseph S. “JC” Bray Jr., 91, Bedford, died Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at his residence in Bedford.

    Mr. Bray was farmer and loved tending the land and raising Polled Herefords. He was a member of Bedford United Methodist Church. He loved cattle, the fruit market and collecting knives.

    Survivors include two sons Niles (Betty) Bray, Bedford, Terry (Earlene) Bray, Bedford; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren and one sister, Frances Morgan, Middletown.

  • Maxine Mae Ford, 68

    Maxine Mae Ford, 68, Salem, Ind. died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008 at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, Ind.

    Born Sept. 25, 1939 in Louisville, she was the daughter of Homer and Vesta Thomas Wingfield. She was a retired employee of the old Bata Shoe Company. She was a member of Canton Church and Homemaker’s Club.

    Survivors include her husband, Leon Ford, whom she married Aug. 24, 1957; a daughter Teresa (David) Pittman, Pekin, Ind.; a sister Jewel Floyd, Salem, Ind.; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

    Carrollton, Ky. – Bernice E. Smith, 89, of Carrollton, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, at Green Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carrollton.

    Funeral services were held at graveside at Floral Hills Memorial Garden, Covington, Ky., on Monday, Aug. 18, with Sister Mary Patricia Kenney officiating.

    Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 10, 1918, in Covington, Ky., to the late Lewis and Virginia Hurd Marsh. She was a retired sales associate.

    Tina Marie Murray, 47, of Campbellsburg, died Sunday, August 17, 2008 at her residence.

    Born October 20, 1960 in Louisville, she was the daughter of Eugene Taylor and Rose Rehla Taylor Isham.

    She attended Tri-County Fellowship in Campbellsburg, and enjoyed doing crafts and working in her flower garden. She also enjoyed making floral arrangements for different occasions.

    Marjorie Wilson Yenowine, 77, of Pendleton, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008 at Baptist Hospital Northeast in LaGrange.

    Born March 27, 1931 in Madison, Ind., she was the daughter of Orwood M. Sr. and Margaret Killian Wilson.

  • Shirley Rodgers Roberts obituary

    LOUISVILLE, Ky – Shirley Rodgers Roberts, 67, of Louisville died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008 at Baptist Hospital East.

    Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 9 at the Stoess Funeral Home, 6534 W. Highway 22, Crestwood, Ky., and Sunday Aug. 10 at the Crestwood Baptist Church with Rev. Key Chambers officiating. Burial was in the Floydsburg Cemetery.

    Mrs. Roberts was born Sept. 6, 1940 to the late Neville and Edith (Pyle) Rodgers.

    Inverness, Fla., -  Frances B. Littrell, 89, of Inverness, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008.

    Funeral services will be held 10:30 – 11:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 15 at the Inverness Chapel of Hooper Funeral Home, 501 W. Main Street, Inverness, Fla. Burial will be at the Florida National Cemetery.

    Mrs. Littrell was born September 24, 1918 in Gratz, Ky., to the late Willis S. and Hallie (Thomas) Johnson. She married the late Howard Littrell and they moved to Florida after his retirement from the military.
