  • Grit key to being successful

    Teachers and administrators often field questions from parents about how to give children the best chance to succeed. How can parents get children to complete their homework, to prepare for college and to learn new skills? Until recently, a clear recipe for “success” has been elusive.

    However, surprising new research is providing a clear answer to these questions and many others: Grit makes the difference.

    This menu is for Kathryn Winn Primary and Cartmell Elementary Schools,  changes for Carroll County High School and Middle School will be italicized.

    Thursday, Sept. 25: Breakfast: sausage biscuit; lunch: hamburger or cheeseburger with bun, lettuce, pickle, tomato, French Fries, peas and carrots, strawberry cups or pears.

    Friday, Sept. 26: Breakfast: cinnamon rolls; lunch: pizza, garden salad, corn, orange wedges or fruit cocktail.

    Thursday, Sept. 18: Breakfast: chicken biscuit; lunch: rotini with meat sauce, breadstick, garden salad, broccoli, grapes or applesauce.

     Friday, Sept. 19: Breakfast: cinnamon rolls; lunch:  pizza, garden salad, corn, orange or peaches.

  • School district will be tobacco-free July 1, 2015

    Starting July 1, 2015, all buildings and grounds in the Carroll County School District will be tobacco-free.  This ban will apply on district property at all times, in all places and to all people, including at sporting events and inside vehicles.  The ban also will apply to electronic cigarettes.

  • Planning meeting

    The Carroll County School District Local Planning Committee will be meeting at the Carroll County Board of Education Conference room on Thursday Sept. 18, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

  • Learning through reading

    The Carroll County High School Cheerleaders volunteered Friday, Sept. 5, to read to the fifth graders at Cartmell Elementary.

    Thursday, Sept. 11: Breakfast: sausage biscuit; lunch: crunchy or soft taco, lettuce, tomato, cheese, salsa, refried beans, Spanish rice, grapes or fruit cocktail.

    Friday, Sept. 12: Breakfast: cinnamon rolls; lunch: chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, green beans with roll, orange or applesauce.

  • Panthers Tots program Sept. 18

    Carroll County Schools Panther Tots program will host its first event of the school year from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Stem Garden, located at 619 Ninth Street. The event will include a snack, free book, activities and Kindergarten readiness skills.
