  • CCMS winter arts night

    Christmas is coming up fast, everyone! What better way to get in the Christmas spirit than coming to see the spectacular bands of Carroll County Middle School Dec. 12, at 6 p.m. in the gym.

    The sixth-grade band will perform “Jingle Bell Rock,” “Feliz Navidad,” “Up on the Housetop,” and “African Patapan.”

    Next will be the seventh-graders with “The Night before Christmas,” setting by James Swearingen and poetry by Clement Clarke Moore; “Toboggan Run” by Matt Conaway; and more.

  • High school students explore Hour of Code Week

    Some students at Carroll County High School began programming computers on Monday, and they have not stopped yet. Part of the annual Hour of Code Week, Lynn Eaglin’s business and technology students are exploring ways to make computers do their bidding: writing code, in other words.

    “I think every student should get some exposure to computer science,” Eaglin said. “It forces them to think in a slightly different way, and it’s a skill that you can apply in life in general, whether you end up in a computer science-related field or not.”

    Thursday, Dec. 1: Breakfast: Pancake and sausage on a stick or apple cinnamon toast or fruit pocket; lunch: Pizza crunchers, pleas, corn and banana.

    Friday, Dec. 2: Breakfast: Doughnut or banana bread; lunch: Chicken Parmesan or grilled cheese, steamed broccoli, steamed carrots, diced pears and breadstick.

  • District collects 14,997 items for Scouting for Food

    Between Nov. 14 and Nov. 18, the students and staff of the Carroll County School District collected 14,997 items as part of the Scouting for Food initiative. Compet-ing in the week-long canned food drive, each school held class and/or grade-level competitions to see which groups could collect the most items. Each school reported its overall numbers each day for a district-level competition as well.

    Here are the collection totals for each school:

    Kathryn Winn Primary: 4,614 items

    Cartmell Elementary: 7,709 items

    Carroll County Area Technical Center hosted a showcase to display its Advanced Career Informatics curriculum on Nov. 16. This leading-edge STEM- and project-based curriculum is designed to prepare students for college and careers in high-demand, high-wage fields critical to the local economy.

    Tuesday, Nov. 29: Breakfast: Scrambled eggs with bacon and toast or mini doughnuts or fruit pocket; lunch: Spaghetti with Texas Toast, California blend veggies, garden salad and apple.
