Learning to read is like learning to walk or ride a bicycle. Completing those tasks is a challenge at first, but, eventually children learn to accomplish them without thinking. They become as easy to perform as breathing. Some people, however, continue to struggle into adulthood with reading. These challenges often result from an underlying deficiency in one of the many processes necessary to learning to reading and comprehension.

The students, faculty, staff and administrators of the Carroll County School District are saluting this community’s elected education leaders during January in Kentucky’s 18th annual observation of School Board Recognition Month.

 Mona Kindoll, Carolyn Jones, Mary Ann Pearson, Rob Spenneberg, and Dru Maiden are among the 872 school board members being honored across the Commonwealth this month by 174 local school districts.

In a brief first meeting of 2013, the Carroll County Board of Education voted to keep its officers in place, as well as officers for the Carroll County School District Finance Corporation.

Mona Kindoll was voted to remain as chairman and Carolyn Jones vice chairman of both entities. Jon Conrad remains as the treasurer for the board and the corporation; James Crawford remains as the attorney for the board and the corporation.

Carroll County High School will be offering a Parent-Student Financial Aid Seminar Session on Wednesday, Jan. 9 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the CCHS Library. 

Local scholarship guidelines will be reviewed and local scholarship booklets will be distributed to all parents and students.
