  • Scarrollton Skeleton 5K Run/Walk Oct. 28

    SPARK Academy students at Carroll County High School Andrea Searcy and Katie Osborne are hosting a 5K run/walk as a service project. The event, called Scarrollton Skeleton 5K Run/Walk will be held Saturday, Oct. 28, at the back entrance of General Butler State Resort Park. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the race begins at 9 a.m.

    The cost is $25. T-shirts are included, and medals will be awarded to the top three racers in each age group: 14 and under, 15-30, 31-49 and 50 and older.

    Friday, Oct. 27: Breakfast: cinnamon roll or Pop Tarts and banana; Lunch: Roast beef and gravy with roll or grilled cheese, mashed potatoes, green beans, banana or fruit sorbet.

    Monday, Oct. 30: Breakfast: Breakfast pizza or banana bread or Trix yogurt with granola or Pop Tarts, orange; Lunch: Pizza or hot ham cheese panini, corn, veggie toss and apple; Lunch: Grilled chicken with Swiss cheese or turkey with Swiss cheese on Ciabatta Bread, Tater Tots, chilled broccoli with carrots, applesauce or pear halves.

    If a school day is cancelled this year, the Carroll County School District will broadcast that cancellation in the following ways:

    Thursday, Oct. 19: Breakfast, French toast sticks with syrup and yogurt or banana bread with yogurt or Pop Tarts and apple; Lunch: Beef or Chicken nachos, lettuce/tomato, salsa/sour cream, queso sauce, refried beans, fiesta rice, banana or pineapple.

    Friday, Oct. 20: Breakfast, Donut or Pop Tarts and banana; Lunch: Fish patty on bun or corn dog, macaroni and cheese, steamed broccoli, cole claw, Mandarin oranges, or Craisins.

  • Fundraiser for injured student

    A fundraiser will be held Oct. 21, for Kalynn Bright, a sophomore at Carroll County High School who was in an ATV accident Oct. 7. She suffered a head trauma, two compressed fracutres in her back, a broken bone in her jaw area and hearing loss in her right ear, according to a Facebook page for the benefit. She also has suffered some short-term memory loss. She was hospitalized and will need rehabilitation.

    The event will be held from 1-5 p.m. Oct. 21, at the American Legion Post 41, 123 Fifth St., Carrollton. The event includes games, a cake walk, dunking booth and more.

  • Report card night at CCHS

    Carroll County High School will host Report Card Night Wednesday, Oct. 25, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the high school cafeteria.

    The purpose of the event is for parents and students to come to CCHS to get their report cards, meet their child’s teachers, see their child’s proposed class schedule for 2018-2019 school year and find out about new programs at CCHS, Counselor Sheree Richter said.

    With school now in session for area college students, classes aren’t the only thing kicking into high gear. Between lodging, books, supplies and other necessities, expenses often ramp up quickly as well.

  • Save your plastic caps

    Kathryn Winn Primary second-grader Madison Having is doing her part to help save the world by collecting plastic caps and lids that will be used to create a new park bench. Her goal is to fill 10 garbage cans full of caps from drink bottles, milk jugs, toothpaste tubes, flip-tops from ketchup and mustard bottles, deodorant, spray cans, and detergent and caps with recycle No. 2 and 5. Acceptable lids include mayonnaise jars, peanut butter jars, cottage cheese tubs, cream cheese tubs, ice cream tubs, coffee cans and butter containers.
