  • Carroll County Schools recognizes its board members

    January is School Board Recognition Month in the state of Kentucky, and the Carroll County School District is proud to honor its local board members, including three who are new.

    The Carroll County Board of Education has five members: Carolyn Jones (Chair, District 4), Rob Spenneberg (Vice-Chair, District 3), Corey Groseclose (District 1), D’anne Smith (District 2) and Gwen Chapman (District 5).

    Chapman began her service in 2016 after being appointed to fill the vacant District 5 position. Groseclose, Smith and Chapman were all elected in November of 2016.

  • Kamphouse named to Dean’s List at Bob Jones University

    Jessica Kamphouse, a freshman creative writing major from Carrollton, was among approximately 900 Bob Jones University students named to the Fall 2016 Dean's List.

    The Dean's List recognizes students who earn a 3.00-3.74 grade point average during the semester.

    Located in Greenville, South Carolina, Bob Jones University is a biblically faithful, Christian liberal arts university focused on educating the whole person to reflect and serve Christ.

  • Carroll County going ‘All in for Algebra’

    Crystal Trimble’s 1st-grade classroom at Kathryn Winn Primary School could be in any small school district in Kentucky. Colorful, circular tables fill the room. A row of desktop computers are lined up in front of windows that look onto the school’s playground. An abacus and other math manipulatives sit within easy reach.

    Yet, something is happening in Trimble’s classroom that is not happening in other classrooms throughout the state.

    Thursday, Jan. 5: Breakfast: Chicken biscuit or apple cinnamon toast or fruit pocket; lunch: Chicken patty on bun with baked beans, smiley fries and banana. Carroll County High School and Middle School will offer, spicy or regular chicken filet on bun along with baked beans, smiley fries and banana.

    Monday, Jan. 2: Breakfast: Breakfast pizza or cereal or mini cinnis; lunch: Chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, green beans with roll and applesauce.

    Tuesday, Jan. 3: Breakfast: Bacon, egg, cheese biscuit or mini doughnuts or fruit pocket; lunch: Pizza, garden salad, corn and apple.

  • Carroll County High School will offer trap-shooting club

    Carroll County will be joining at least seven other Kentucky high schools fielding trap-shooting clubs this spring.

    It all began when sophomore Kinley Huesman, a member of the Carroll County Top Shots 4-H shooting sports team, attended the Kentucky 4-H state leaders’ forum last February where she learned of the Kentucky High School Target League. The league is part of the United States High School Clay Target League.

  • Celebrating Christmas

    Christian Academy’s second through 12th-graders performed their Christmas program Dec. 8, in front of family and friends in the school gymnasium. 

  • I prefer mine in a bowl

    Cartmell students brought in more than 6,600 food items for the community food drive. Their reward was to turn guidance counselor Lee Dillon into a human ice cream sundae.

  • School district honors Kindoll, Maiden for their service

    Carroll County School Superintendent Bill Hogan recognized outgoing board members Dru Maiden and Mona Kindoll Thursday, Dec. 15, at their final meeting.

    Maiden said she is proud of the improvements the board has completed during her term. “We have the renovation to the middle school and the athletic complex at the high school that measure up to anything around us,” Maiden said.
