  • Schools collaborate to plan College & Career Readiness activities

    Operation Preparation, a state-wide program promoting college and career readiness among middle and high school students, has expanded from one week in 2012 to the entire month of March this year.  Every student in eighth and 10th grade will meet face-to-face with a trained volunteer about a possible career area the student has identified in his or her Individual Learning Plan (ILP).

    March 14: BBQ on bun, potato wedges, kale, orange, baked apples and milk; breakfast: sausage biscuit and gravy.

    March 15: Fish, or shrimp poppers, stewed tomatoes, pinto beans, cole slaw, cornbread, apple, fruit cocktail and milk; breakfast: breakfast pizza.

    March 18: Hot dog or meatball sub on bun, potato wedges, baked beans, apple, pears, cookie and milk; breakfast: bacon egg.

    March 19: Chicken Parmesan or Chicken Alfredo, veggies, garden salad, breadsticks, banana, pineapple tidbits and milk; breakfast: pancakes on a stick.

  • CCHS hosts spring registration, progress report conferences

    Carroll County High School will host Parent-Teacher-Student spring registration and progress report card conferences from 3-6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27 at Carroll County High School. Parents are invited to attend these 15-minute conferences any time between 3-6 p.m. in the cafeteria.

    The following will occur during these 15-minute sessions:

    • Receive a copy of their child’s fourth nine-week progress report card

    • Approve their child’s requested courses for the 2013-2014 school year

  • Don’t miss ‘Les Mis’

    It’s a classic novel, a Broadway hit and an Oscar-nominated film, and now it is coming to a stage near you.

    Carroll County High School presents “Les Misérables,” starring about 25 local high school and elementary school children. The curtain goes up at 7 p.m. Friday, March 22, and again at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, March 23. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.

    Wednesday, March 6: Hot dog, bun, sweet potato fries, chilled broccoli and carrots, orange, pineapple tidbits and milk; breakfast: scrambled eggs with bacon.

    Thursday, March 7: Taco on tortilla, lettuce, tomato, cheese, salsa, refried beans, grapes, fruit cocktail and milk; breakfast: sausage biscuit.

    Friday, March 8: Hamburger or cheeseburger, bun, lettuce, tomato, pickle,  pimento cheese sandwich, French fries, banana, applesauce  and milk; breakfast: donuts.

  • Alternative school prepares students for reality

    Before coming out of retirement in 2004 to teach at the Carroll County Alternative Learning Center, Ed Nelson, the school’s current principal, taught agriculture classes at Carroll County High School for 28 years. Referring to himself as “an old vocational teacher at heart,” Nelson says preparing students as citizens and employees has always been important to him as an educator.

    Friday, March 1: Pork roast, mashed potatoes, broccoli and cheese, roll, orange, applesauce, and milk; breakfast: breakfast,  pizza.

    Monday, March 4: No school

  • Registration seminar for current eighth graders set for March 7 at high school

    2013-14 calendarThe guidance department of Carroll County High School is sponsoring a registration seminar for parents of students who will attend the high school next school year. Current eighth-grade parents and students will meet with the guidance counselor at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 7 in the high school cafeteria.
