  • It’s not too late to sign up for classes at JCTC

    The Spring 2013 semester is in full swing at Jefferson Community and Technical College—Carrollton Campus. Faculty, staff and students are taking on a variety of activities for the college and the community.

  • Annual Dr. Seuss Birthday Bash to be held March 2

    The Dr. Seuss Birthday Bash returns to Kathryn Winn Primary 10 a.m.-1 p.m. this Saturday. The eighth annual community literacy fair will be held in the school gymnasium, cafeteria and library/media center on the actual birthday of the beloved children’s author Theodor Seuss Geisel, who was born 109 year ago on March 2.

    The event, which involves more than 20 community groups, offers a variety of literacy-based activities for young children and is sponsored this year by the Carroll County Early Childhood Council.

  • Middle School renovations to include new gymnasium, classrooms, locker rooms

    Plans are getting underway for Carroll County Middle School renovations.

    Much of the project’s focus will center on building a new gymnasium and transforming the current gymnasium into a new collaborative workspace expanding Project Lead the Way and the STEAM program.

    Chief Financial Officer Jon Conrad said the estimated total project cost is $5.743 million; however that amount will change after the project is bid out.

     Wednesday, Feb. 20: spaghetti with meat sauce, Nantucket blend, steamed broccoli, banana, sliced peaches and milk; breakfast: pancakes in a bag.

    Thursday, Feb. 21: chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, green beans, roll, apple, fruit cocktail and milk; breakfast:  sausage egg biscuit.

    Friday, Feb. 22: sloppy Joe on bun, pimento cheese sandwich, French fries, kale, orange, baked pears and milk; breakfast: donuts.

  • Tiger Cubs visit The News-Democrat

    Tiger Cub Pack 418 visited The News-Democrat on Feb. 12 to learn more about the newspaper business. The boys learned how to conduct interviews. They came up with a list of questions, paired up and interviewed each other. They also took each others’ pictures. Here are the results of their hard work.

  • Five local students make UK 2012 fall Dean’s List

     Five students from Carroll County were among 5,870 named to the University of Kentucky dean’s list for the fall 2013 semester. 

  • County schools participate in P20 Learning Lab project

     Representatives from the Carroll County School District attended a Feb. 8 news conference in Frankfort where -University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto announced that the National Center for Innovation in Education is being established at the UK College of Education. 

    The center has funding from two of the country’s leading foundations — the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
