  • Community volunteers sought to advise students on careers

    With one guidance counselor serving 530 students at Carroll County High School, it took Sheree Richter five weeks this past fall to meet face-to-face with every senior for twenty minutes.

    “The face-to-face meeting with each student is very powerful,” said Richter, the CCHS Guidance Counselor, who discusses career options with the seniors in the one-on-one meetings. “You really get their attention in a way that’s just not possible in a group, even in a small group.”

  • Pre-filed bills could affect Kentucky’s public schools

    FRANKFORT — Two bills prefiled by a central Kentucky senator for the 2012 General Assembly would affect public school education across the state if passed.

    The legislation, from Sen. Jimmy Higdon, R-Lebanon, is Senate Bill 24 and Senate Bill 21.

  • KCTCS recognized Carrollton benefactors at Gala

    Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) President Michael B. McCall, along with Jefferson Community and Technical College (JCTC) President Anthony Newberry, recognized the generous contributions from Carrollton residents at the 12th Annual President’s Gala and Benefactors Awards Dinner.

     The Carroll County Fiscal Court, Carrollton College Educational Foundation, Inc., and North American Stainless were all honored at the gala for donating $100,000 each towards the new JCTC Carrollton Campus.

  • It’s time to apply for college aid

    For many students, choosing and applying to colleges often comes down to dollars and cents.

    How to pay for college often is one of the first things students begin to contemplate when the college application process begins. One of the main components in seeking aid is completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

    The application for 2012-13 funding became available Sunday and can be found at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

  • Family Ties, Youth Services need parents to do surveys

    “It’s hard for students to focus on school when they have struggles going on at home,” said Robin Huesman, coordinator of the Family Ties Resource Center, which serves children from birth through fifth grade. “We help students and their families overcome barriers to learning.”

    Whether students need school supplies, assistance with food or clothing, help finding a part-time job, or referrals for drug and alcohol counseling, the Family Resource Center and Youth Services Center enhance students’ abilities to succeed in school.

  • Graduation

    Two Carroll County  residents were among the 238 students that graduated from Campbellsville University in two ceremonies on Friday, Dec. 16 in Ransdell Chapel.

    Whitney Nicole Ballinger of Carrollton, Ky., received a bachelor of science in math. She is a 2007 graduate of Carroll County High School in Carrollton, Ky., and is the daughter of Gerald and Elaine Ballinger of Carrollton, Ky. She graduated magna cum laude.
