Tests equal grades. Grades are numbers. Carroll County received plenty of numbers and grades from the most recent battery of Kentucky Core Content tests. The problem comes in trying to interpret those numbers. 

The numbers don’t lie. The numbers can say anything. Those are just a few of the sentiments many people have as their eyes glaze over looking at charts, graphs and spread sheets. 

Jefferson Community and Technical College’s Carrollton Campus welcomes four new faces for the 2011 fall semester:  Caroline Reisner, Joe Carhart, Tom Buchanan and Robin Caldwell Welch.

Reisner, who started at JCTC in 2010, has now been hired as a full-time geology instructor on the faculty. She teaches a variety of courses from dinosaurs and disasters to physical geology.

What is your favorite thing about school?

“The enjoyment of learning new things. I really like to ask questions if I don’t understand something, especially if it is something [I] like.” 

Who is your favorite teacher and why? 

“Ms. Mullennex because she just does her work in a more fun environment and where it’s not so difficult. If you have a question, she answers it in a way you would understand today.”

What was the last book you read? 

When Senate Bill 1 of 2009 eliminated the Commonwealth Accountability Testing System (CATS), school districts began working with the Kentucky Depart-ment of Education and Kentucky School Boards Associa-tion to develop a new system of school accountability. The Sept. 27 release of test scores from the spring of 2011 have now established a new baseline that will help schools to more effectively gauge the progress of individual students and determine if they are on track to enter college or a career field by the time they graduate.
