  • Making melodies

    The Carroll County High School Choir held its spring concert May 7, in the high school gym. Members of the choir are Amanda Lambert, Tanya Danner, Jordyn Hunt, Ethan Jones, Rhiannon Jones, Sara Noonan, Mallory Perry, Chris Ballis, Cassie Hall, Tayttum Horine, Logan Martin and Shawna Pattee.

    “Learning being fun. By this I mean we learn through games and other ways that isn’t just working on a sheet of paper.”

    What is your favorite subject and why?

    “Math. I like math so well because it is interesting and I score better in math, but I like reading, too.”

  • Dow Corning gives back through tutoring, mentoring

    Volunteers from Carrollton’s Dow Corning plant are wrapping up another year of tutoring and mentoring at Carroll County Middle School. Twelve employees from the company volunteered to work with two students each on a weekly basis during the second half of the 2014-2015 school year.

    Thursday, May 14: Breakfast: chicken biscuit; lunch: hot dog, with bun, chili sauce, cheese, potato rounds, grapes or diced pears. Philly cheese/buffalo chicken with bun, lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, green peppers, baked beans, fries, grapes or pear halves for lunch.

  • New high school athletic complex tops $3 million

    Carroll County Board of Education accepted a bid of more than $3.4 million for the construction of the Carroll County High School athletic complex at a special meeting Monday, May 11.

    Other items on the agenda were change orders to the Carroll County Middle School construction project and a land purchase on Fourth Street.

    The school board voted to accept the bid submitted by Weir Construction for the athletic field upgrades. Weir was the only bidder for the project.

    Nucor Steel Gallatin hosted the Cartmell Elementary fourth-graders May 1, for its annual Earth Day field trip.
