  • CCHS prepares for new school year with freshman orientation

    Carroll County High School will host freshman orientation on Friday, Aug. 3, for students and parents to help prepare them for the opening day of school on Wednesday, Aug. 8. 

    This is the ninth year that Carroll County High School will be offering the “Panther Kick-Off” Orientation as a freshman transition experience. With the support of administration they are offering this opportunity for all incoming freshmen to be held Friday, Aug. 3 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Carroll County High School.

  • Kentucky Court of Appeals declines to block release of child abuse records

    FRANKFORT — The Kentucky Court of Appeals declined Monday to halt the release of thousands of pages of documents about children who were killed or seriously injured from abuse and neglect.

    In a 2-1 decision, the Court of Appeals denied the Cabinet for Health and Family’s Services motion for a stay, pending the outcome of an appeal of a lower court’s order to release the documents.

  • Registration set for GED classes

     Jefferson Community and Technical College-Adult Education will hold registration for its GED classes on the first and third Mondays of the month or by appointment.

    Daytime classes are held Mondays and Wednesdays with reading from 9-10 a.m., language from 10-11 a.m., math from 11 a.m. to noon and open tutoring from noon to 1:30 p.m.

    Evening classes are set for Mondays and Tuesdays from 5:30-7:30 p.m., with open tutoring 4:30-5:30 p.m.

    The JCTC Adult Education Program is located at 324 Main Street, on the third floor in room 304.

  • Three local students earn degrees from NKU

     Three Carroll County residents recently graduated from Northern Kentucky University.

    Hayley Franklin of Carrollton received a degree in communications studies. Erin Mattingly of Carrollton earned a degree in integrative studies.

    Jake Thompson of Ghent earned his degree in criminal justice.

  • Stoops named to NKU President’s Honor List

     Northern Kentucky University has named Christin Stoops of Carrollton to the President’s Honor List for the 2012 spring semester. Stoops maintained a 4.0 grade point average. She is majoring in secondary social studies education. She is the daughter of Arthur and Denia Stoops of Carrollton and the granddaughter of Ronald and Anna Sharp of Carrollton and Arthur Stoops of Florence, Ind. and Judy White of Rising Sun, Ind.

  • College graduation gap is widening for Kentuckians who are low-income

    More Kentuckians are getting college degrees, but a troubling trend has emerged in who receives them.

    According to a new report, the gap between graduation rates for low-income college students and moderate- to high-income students jumped 8 percentage points between 2008 and 2010.
