  • Cruz to present at WKU research conference

    About 400 students will make presentations at Western Kentucky University 47th Annual Student Research Conference on Saturday, March 25, at Downing Student Union.

    Scholarly activities of graduate and undergraduate students in all colleges at WKU across the main and regional campuses will present and co-present original research and creative projects that include 153 posters and exhibits, 177 oral papers and presentations, four performances and one video.

  • Wise to retire, Ray moves up

    Time is funny. In 1984, Jonica Ray sat down at her desk for the first day of fifth grade. Gerda Wise began her first day as a teacher.

    “I can still see her in the classroom, working on projects,” said Wise. “I remember that she showed so much promise. I wrote on her report card that I thought she would be a great teacher.”

    Thursday, March 16: Breakfast: Chicken biscuit or apple cinnamon toast or fruit pocket; lunch: Soft taco, lettuce/tomato/ cheese/salsa/sour cream, refried beans, Mexican rice and banana. Carroll County High School and Middle School will offer: Soft taco or chicken fajita with lettuce/tomato/ cheese/salsa/sour cream, refried beans, Mexican rice and banana for lunch.

    The Carrollton Campus of Jefferson Community and Technical College has teamed up with Lindsey Wilson College to offer a Bachelor of Arts degree in human services and counseling and a Master of Education degree in counseling and human development. All of the courses will be offered on Fridays from 4-9 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the new Carrollton Campus, which opens in August.

  • Be our guest: CCHS presents ‘Beauty and the Beast’

    Relive the romance and the excitement of one of Walt Disney’s most cherished love stories, as the Carroll County High School drama club presents “Beauty and the Beast.” Performances will be at 7 p.m. Friday, March 24, and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at the high school cafeteria. Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults.

  • Spark Academy to bring big changes for CCHS

    It just takes a spark to start a fire. A key opens a door. Small changes lead to big results.

    Start-ing in August, 20 Carroll County High School students are going to experience school in a new way.

    This is the Spark Academy, a new model of school that will give students unprecedented freedom to direct their own education.

    “Time, pace and place,” said Superintendent Bill Hogan. “Students need more control, and that is just what we are going to give them.”
