  • CCHS students earn Microsoft Office certifications

    Finding a career that does not require computer skills is a bit like finding a four-leaf clover: you have to look really hard. In almost all career paths that students will pursue, they are sure to be surrounded by computers. Banking, teaching, engineering, medicine, business management and journalism — these are just a few of the industries that have been upended by three decades of technological revolution.

    This menu is for Kathryn Winn Primary and Cartmell Elementary Schools, changes for Carroll County High School and Middle School will be italicized.

     

    Thursday, Jan. 21: Sausage biscuit or mini cinnis and apple; lunch: Soft taco, lettuce/tomato, cheese/salsa/sour cream, refried beans, Mexican rice, grapes or pineapple tidbits. Carroll County Middle and High School will offer Sausage cheese bagel for breakfast and taco or chicken fajita for lunch.

  • Alumni night at the new CCMS gym

    Monday, Jan. 25 is Alumni Night at the new Carroll County Middle School gymnasium.

    The seventh, eighth and freshman boys’ teams will play, with the first game starting at 5:30 p.m.

    Former NCKC middle school boys’ and girls’ teams who have won the conference will be recognized, and banners will be unveiled.

    The game will be a blackout, so fans are encouraged to wear black to support the Panthers.

  • Jones elected new Board of Ed chair

    Carroll County Board of Education elected officers and set meeting dates and times for the 2016 calendar year at a special meeting Jan. 7.
    Carolyn Jones will assume the reins as chairperson of the board, replacing Mona Kindoll who has said she would not run for another term when hers expires at the end of 2016. Rob Spenneberg was elected as vice-chair person. Tracie Crawford, Jon Conrad and Jim Crawford were reappointed as board secretary, board treasurer and board attorney, respectively.

  • January is School Board Member Recognition Month

    Some elected officials enjoy power and prestige, and others enjoy the feeling of making a difference in the lives of 2,000 students every day. Members of the Carroll County School District’s Board of Education are in the latter group.

    “Our board members are champions for the children of Carroll County,” Superintendent Bill Hogan said. “Every day, they take actions with the interests of our kids in mind.”

  • UC confers 570 degrees in December

    University of the Cumberlands announced 570 students completed their studies in December 2015. A combination of undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees were awarded based on completion of requirements.

    Local graduating students include:

    Tracy James of Campbellsburg, Ky., earned a MAE degree in Teacher as Leader.

    Candida McMillan of Carrollton earned a MAT degree in Early Elementary Education P-5.

    Ellen Rohrer of Carrollton earned a EdS degree in Instructional Leadership Principal All G.
