  • CFD, Westside put out apartment fire

    A Carrollton man and his cat escaped an apartment fire Wednesday, June 29 by jumping down from the roof.

    The call came in to Carroll County Dispatch at 9:37 a.m. as a house fire at 1005 8th Street with a man on the roof.

    The building, owned by David Mefford, has four apartments, one upstairs and three downstairs. Carrollton Fire Assistant Chief Harold “Tinks” Dews said the middle apartment downstairs was on fire.

  • Foreign Trade subzone status sought by NAS

    North American Stainless will seek federal approval for a Foreign-Trade Zone subzone to provide competitive tax advantages on the import and export of its materials.

    NAS won local approval to seek the foreign trade zone status June 28 after making a presentation to Carroll County Fiscal Court.

    The company’s application, which will be filed later this year, would be the second subzone in Carroll County. Dow Corning was granted subzone status under the Louisville and Jefferson County Riverport Authority Foreign-Trade Zone last year.

  • Carroll welcomes NASCAR race fans by hosting variety of events this week

    Race fans will find a number of activities to enjoy in Carroll County this week leading up to the inaugural NASCAR Sprint Cup Quaker State 400 Saturday.

    The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce hosts Race Fest 2011 Wednesday in downtown Carrollton, while a cornhole party is planned with drivers at the county fairgrounds. Several local stores are also hosting NASCAR-related events throughout the week.

    The NASCAR Sprint Cup haulers will also be coming through Louisville, Lexington and Cincinnati Wednesday for race fans to enjoy.

  • Inaugural Sprint Cup Quaker State 400 sells out at Kentucky Speedway

    The 107,000 grandstand tickets available for the inaugural NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway have sold out.

    Fans who wish to witness NASCAR history July 9 can still take advantage of the speedway’s Pit Road Club that offers an infield view of the race action from behind pit road wall or $60 standing room only tickets that will provide access to the Turn 1 and Turn 4 concourses.

    Arrest made after handgun stolen

    A Ghent man was arrested by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office for stealing an antique handgun from a residence.

    Aaron L. Anderson, 22, was charged with theft by unlawful taking (firearm) on June 23. Anderson admitted to Carroll County Deputy J.T. Shaw that he took the firearm from the residence of Raymond Pelston. Anderson was visiting the residence when he stole the weapon.
