The Carrollton Lions Club held its annual poker run on Saturday, June 1, in memory of Mike Gividen. While the weather did not look promising, 39 people participated on motorcycles, and in cars and pickup trucks. Conflicting events also contributed to the low turnout. The Lions Club still decided to host the poker run, but shortened the run and number of stops so the day would not be lost for everyone who came out to show their support.

A recently completed renovation at the Carrollton Village apartment complex, located off of Highland Avenue across from Park Lanes shopping center, involved far more than just new paint and carpeting.

The $7.57 million project included replacing doors, windows and heating/air conditioning units and installing low-flow faucets and toilets to make the 80 units more energy efficient. Each unit is now fully accessible to handicapped residents and visitors.

Weather and broken equipment both played a role in delaying the completion of the new bridge over Locust Creek on Hwy. 36 – and headaches for everyone involved, particularly anyone commuting between Carrollton and Milton.

The new bridge and realigned approaches and roadway were supposed to be finished this week, but officials don’t expect the bridge to reopen now until July 3.

Local motorists are enjoying the wide expanse of the new Milton-Madison Bridge over the Ohio River, which opened to traffic about 9:37 p.m. Monday.

The transition of traffic from the narrow 1929-vintage span to the new replacement span in its temporary location atop temporary piers came with a lot of fanfare as motorists on both sides of the river waited in queue for the opportunity to be among the first to cross.
