Imagine seven miles of walking and hiking trails that could take you from General Butler State Resort Part to Carroll County’s Robert Westrick Memorial Park.

Connecting the two parks with a new trail along the abandoned Lock Road is one of the goals of the county’s Recreational Trails Committee, led by Joan Moore, executive director of the Carroll County Community Development Corporation.

Two minor deficiencies were found in an audit of the Carroll County School District conducted recently by Raisor Zapp and Woods of Carrollton.

Jerilyn Zapp told the Board of Education on Thursday, Nov. 20, that the deficiences were regarding internal control due to the size of the administrative staff, which is a common problem in small school districts, and a “failure to prepare a complete set of financial statements.”

Zapp said the most likely recommendation for solving the deficiencies would be outsourcing some of the work.

Is a new bridge necessary?

That was the question at the forefront when members of the Milton-Madison Bridge project advisory group met last week to continue addressing how best to resolve issues with the important structure’s inadequacies.

This was the second meeting of the group that has been tasked with brainstorming ideas for possible replacement or rehabilitation of the current bridge that spans the Ohio River from Milton, Ky. to Madison, Ind.

This week, more than two-dozen boys from Milton will give of themselves to help those in Trimble County who have fallen upon hard times. Their success, however, depends on you.

Despite the welcome drop in fuel prices recently, many in the community continue to struggle to afford necessities, such as food. For some, family members may be able to pitch in when needed. But for others, resources like the food pantry at Milton Methodist Church make the difference between putting dinner on the table or going without.
