    The man known to all racing fans as the King of NASCAR, Richard Petty, came to Belterra Casino Tuesday, Jan. 31 for a Tireside Chat, a question and answer session hosted by the Kentucky Speedway.

  • No suspects after dog shot in city

    A Carrollton family is hoping for answers in the shooting of one of their dogs.

    Margaret Walker of 618 Winslow St. said that, occasionally, her three dogs will escape from the back yard “to see the city.”

    That’s what happened Friday, Feb. 3, but this time when her husband, Charles, went to round up the dogs, he found one of them – Moka – lying on the neighbor’s driveway, unable to move.

    Charles Walker lifted the 45-pound Welsh corgi-mix and took her immediately to their veterinarian, Dr. Mary A. Zink in Bedford.

  • Former CCDC prisoner to serve time after recent illegal alien conviction

    The U.S. Attorney’s Office and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) jointly announced today that an illegal alien, previously convicted of an aggravated felony, was sentenced Tuesday, Jan. 17 to 71 months in prison for illegally entering the U.S. a second time.

    Jose Antonio Gonzalez-Meija 29, was discovered as an illegal alien after he was serving time in the Carroll County Detention Center in July of 2011.

    Gonzalez-Meija’s previous conviction of rape in Henry County, Ky. in 2006 enhanced the federal prison sentence he received Tuesday.

  • Sheriff’s Office looking for alleged automobile thief

    A man who took advantage of distracted employees at the Carroll County Super 8 Motel allegedly stole an automobile belonging to one of the hotel’s workers.

    The man, whose identity is not known, came to the hotel and asked to use the phone on Wednesday, Jan. 25, according to a news release from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. Employees let him use the phone and, after he was done, he noticed a woman had left her car keys on the desk, according to the sheriff’s office. The man is caught on videotape walking around the hotel counter and taking the keys.

  • Alleged shoplifter caught at Walmart

    An alleged shoplifter from Walmart was chased by a customer and apprehended by law enforcement on Monday, Jan. 23.

    A representative from Walmart reported the alleged shoplifter to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office at about 10:30 a.m. At the same time, a customer noticed the accused shoplifter leaving the store and followed the suspect, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. The individual gave a description of the shoplifter and a location.

  • Truck driver dies on I-71

    Troopers from Kentucky State Police Post 5 responded to a fatal collision Friday, Jan. 27 at 2:32 a.m. in Carroll County.

    The investigation showed that Lokey Shorter Sr., 63, from Trotwood, Ohio, was traveling north on I-71 at the 38 mile marker in a tractor-trailer, according to a news release from KSP. While switching lanes, state police say Shorter lost control of the tractor-trailer causing it to turn onto its side.
