  • Art club organizing a ‘Paint the Bridge’ exhibit in Madison

    The Madison Art Club invites artists to submit entries for a special exhibit “Paint the Bridge” at the Art on Main gallery and gift shop. Paint the Bridge is a non-juried art show coinciding with the community-wide celebration “Bridge Party.....Celebrate” the Slide’ to be held on the Madison riverfront in late July.

    Entries must have the Milton-Madison bridge (past, present or future) as the focal subject and can be in any medium, 2-D or 3-D, including photography. Membership in the MAC is not required.

  • Crash led to improved safety for school buses

    Twenty-five years ago, 15-year-old Quinton Higgins spent about a month in Kosair Children’s Hospital after suffering lung damage and second- and third-degree burns  in the fiery bus crash.

    Today, Higgins drives a Hardin County School bus.

    The differences between the bus he drives every school day and the repurposed 1977 Ford B-700 school bus he was in that night in 1988 are like “night and day,” Higgins said.

    CARROLLTON — You can find many of the characteristics of Carrollton in most towns across Kentucky and around the country.

    Off Interstate 71 at exit 44, motorists are greeted by Taco Bell, Burger King and McDonald’s restaurants. Drive downtown along Hwy. 227 and you pass a Subway, a few banks, the Family Worship Center and a Walmart.

  • Baseball fundraiser for TCHS student waiting for double lung transplant

    Today’s game between the Carroll County Panthers and Trimble County Raiders at Trimble’s new athletic complex is a special fundraising event for a Trimble student who is on a waiting list for a double lung transplant. The game starts at 5 p.m.

    The Christopher Goodin Celebration will honor the 16-year-old and help contribute toward family expenses not covered by insurance, according to Trimble County head coach Frank Ragland.

  • Kentucky has variety of specialty license plates

    If it seems as if you see a lot of variety in Kentucky’s license plates, it’s because you do.

    Beyond the standard “Unbridled Spirit” and “In God We Trust” plates, Kentucky offers dozen of other license plates promoting everything from military service and a love of nature to coal and chiropractors.

    But what’s the most popular? The Herald-Leader asked the state Transportation Cabinet, which offered these statistics on the 3.79 million license plates on the road.

  • Don’t Be Scammed

    Nowadays, everyone is a potential target for scam artists trying to separate well-meaning people from their hard-earned savings.

    But in Trimble County and the surrounding area, the elderly still seem to be prime targets, and Sheriff Tim Coons is hoping to get the word out to prevent local residents from falling victim to scammers.

    The most recent scam involves a young male calling the home of an elderly person or couple and claiming to be a grandson.

  • KSP arrests man for manufacturing meth

    A Trimble County man has been arrested after state police discovered a meth lab in his home at 71 Latta Road in Bedford. 

    Kentucky State Police troopers went to the home Tuesday, March 5, after receiving information about possible drug activity at the residence, according to a news release. After receiving permission to search the home, an active meth lab allegedly was discovered cooking in the back bedroom, according to police.
