(Smithfield, KY) – Detectives from Kentucky State Police Post 5 are continuing their investigation into an apparent murder in Henry County.

KSP Post 5 Dispatch received a call of a shooting occurring at 7634 Ballardsville Road in Smithfield, Ky. at 3:19 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1. When troopers arrived on scene, they discovered that Joseph Bibelhauser, 61, had been shot in the head as a result of a property dispute with the alleged perpetrator, according to a KSP news release. Bibelhauser was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Mike Jeffrey has one foot in America and the other in Iraq — and never knows which is bearing more weight.

Jeffrey, a Rineyville resident, spoke to about 85 people at the seventh annual Veterans’ Recognition Event at the John W. Black Community Center Aug. 9.

This year the event focused on post-traumatic stress, a chronic condition that affects anyone who has suffered a traumatic event, including civilians.

When Kentucky’s 2012-2013 deer season opens with the beginning of archery hunting Sat., Sept. 1, there will be plenty of reasons for hunters to be optimistic.

Last deer season was arguably the state’s best ever.

Kentucky hunters also posted the fourth best overall harvest with 119,656 deer, the highest total since the 2008-09 season. In 96 of Kentucky’s 120 counties, hunters bagged more deer than in the 2010-2011 deer season.

On Sept. 22, from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., families can enjoy a ride on the Richwood Tahoe Railroad while helping abused children. The half-scale steam locomotive will be open from 9:00 to 12:30 for the third annual event. In addition to the train ride, there will be food and child-centered games to enjoy, along with the magic of Chuck Arkin. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $5 for children and $25 for families (2 adults, 2 children), and can be purchased in advance or at the event.
