  • Call for living-history performers

    Kentucky Chautauqua is seeking presenters to develop dramatic programs portraying the lives of historical Kentuckians.

    Through the application and audition process, they will select five new Kentucky Chautauqua characters in July 2012. This is your only chance to apply.

    Dramatic experience is desirable but not required. Proposed Chauttauqua characters do not have to be famous, but their lives should illuminate some part of Kentucky’s history, and their stories should be compelling enough to appeal to audiences in every part of the state.

  • Trimble ALS event reaps $15,545

    BEDFORD, Ky. – The Bob’s Bunch Benefit to raise money for ALS research, held Saturday at the Morgan Community Center has been labeled a smashing success by event coordinators.

    “Bob’s Bunch Battling ALS” was organized last year by Bedford resident Diane McKinney, whose husband, Bob, was diagnosed with the disease in 2009.

  • Milton-Madison Bridge will be closed April 25-29

    The first closure of the Milton-Madison Bridge is set to occur during the middle of next week. The Indiana Department of Transportation and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will have a construction-related closure of the bridge, from Wednesday, April 25, through Sunday, April 29.

    During the planned closure, the project contractor – Walsh Construction Company – will work around the clock to remove the existing bridge approaches and connect temporary ramps in Milton and Madison.

  • Beshear signs bills to support Ky. National Guard families, veterans

    FRANKFORT – Gov. Steve Beshear, surrounded by veterans and lawmakers, signed into law several bills benefitting Kentucky veterans and families of the Kentucky National Guard.
     

    The bills include House Bill 121, HB 221, HB 224, HB 256, HB 369 and HB 379.

  • Smith to serve 60 days, pay county $9,500; no animals

    Despite a deal with the Commonwealth’s Attorney, Terri L. Smith will not be taking back ownership of the two dogs and two horses she’d asked for in exchange for a guilty plea to one count of second-degree cruelty to animals.

  • City fed up with poor service from WiFi company

    That’s the message Campbellsburg Mayor Rex Morgan would like to deliver to PoweredOn owner Brent Graves of Carrollton.

    Campbellsburg hired Graves in 2011 to set up a wireless Internet, or WiFi, network to be delivered at no cost to city residents. But, one year later, the network has coverage issues, and Graves did not follow through on a promise he made to the council in March to address the problems.

  • Spike in motorcycle crashes prompts State Police to begin social media safety blitz

    KSP reports that 2012 has already shown a spike in motorcycle-related crashes with a 69 percent increase from 2011 for the same time period. For this reason, KSP has decided to utilize their best asset for reaching the public – social media. With over 40,000 followers on Facebook©, 2,900 followers on Twitter© and an active YouTube©, Flickr© and Blogger© account, the agency plans to blast out motorcycle safety messaging via these platforms.

  • Rescheduled ALS fundraiser is Saturday

    “Bob’s Bunch Battling ALS” will hold a fundraiser for ALS research at the Morgan Community Center in Bedford on Saturday, April 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    The event was originally scheduled for March 3 but the tornado that struck the Milton Fire Station No. 2 on the day before forced the cancellation of that event.

  • Christian music concert on April 21

    A concert benefiting the Carroll County Food Pantry will be held at the Carroll County Middle School Auditorium from 6-9 p.m. on Saturday, April 21.

    Local Christian musicians The Infinite Realm will serve as the host group for the concert, billed as a “Feed the Hungry” Gospel Jubilee. Also appearing will be the Commonwealth Quartet from Nashville, Tenn., and Hearts of Joy, a trio based in Hanover, Ind.

  • Gov. Beshear calls for cooperation, innovation at national prescription drug abuse summit

    ORLANDO, Fla. – At the National Prescription Drug Abuse Summit in Orlando Tuesday, Gov. Steve Beshear called for states and the federal government to develop aggressive shared tactics to thwart the devastating scourge of prescription drug abuse.

    He also encouraged Kentucky legislators to keep the state on the leading edge of effective anti-drug strategies by passing a broad prescription drug bill on the final day of the legislative session this week.
