  • Candidates file for city races

    Voters in Carrollton, Ghent and Prestonville will have a choice for their city’s next mayor as incumbents face challengers for their jobs in the Nov. 4 General Election.

    Carrollton voters also must select from a field of eight seeking the six seats for council, while in Prestonville five are vying for four seats on city commission.

    The filing deadline for the non-partisan elections closed at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 12.

    The following decisions were rendered Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 6-7, 2014, in Carroll County District Court with the Hon. Thomas M. Funk presiding.

  • Sleep is important for success at school and work

    As our children return to school, this is a good time to discuss the importance of getting enough sleep.

    One of the most critical needs in helping youth and adults too, succeed in school, work, and just daily living is to get enough sleep. Although it may seem normal to some people when they do not get a full night of rest every night, over time, the lack of sleep can be harmful to their health. 

  • Use the right strategy to control yellow jackets, hornets

    European hornets, bald-faced hornets, and yellow jackets are intimidating creatures, and spend the summer searching plants for insects to capture and carry back to the nest as food for developing larvae.

    How-ever, most are not outwardly aggressive, and tend to stay within a few hundred feet of their nests. Aggressiveness can change quickly.  Movements toward the nest may provoke an aggressive defense.

  • Cellular Connection offers scholarships

    Children ages 13 and younger in Carrollton have the opportunity to receive college scholarships by simply doing one of their favorite activities: coloring. The Cellular Connection, the largest Verizon Premium Wireless Retailer in the U.S., announced today that its “Color for College” program will donate $1,500 college scholarships to students nationwide at nearly 300 of its stores.

    Mississippi Lime Company has announced that  Randy Witte has joined the Huron, Ohio lime plant as the Operations Manager.

    This menu is for Kathryn Winn Primary and Cartmell Elementary Schools. Changes for Carroll County High School and Middle School will be italicized.

     

    Thursday, Aug. 14, Breakfast: sausage biscuit; lunch: hard or soft taco, lettuce/tomato/cheese/salsa, refried beans, Spanish rice, grapes or fruit cocktail.

     Friday, Aug. 15, Breakfast: cinnamon rolls; lunch: chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, green beans, roll, orange or applesauce.
