    Thursday, Sept. 8: Breakfast: Chicken biscuit or apple cinnamon toast or fruit pocket; lunch: Soft taco, lettuce/tomato/ cheese/salsa/sour cream, refried beans, Mexican rice and banana.     Carroll County High School FCA is hosting a clothing drive. Any type or size of clothing will be donated to those in need. Drop off donations at the CCHS front office.   • Panthers unable to defend All ‘A’ title, lose to Walton-Verona, 3-1

    Looking to defend its 8th Region All ‘A’ title, the Panthers soccer team suffered a disappointing 3-1 loss to Walton-Verona Thursday. Carroll County defeated Walton-Verona, 4-3, in last year’s championship game–the Panthers’ first win over the Bearcats since 2007–but could not make it two in a row.

    Walton-Verona defeated Gallatin County, 3-0, in the championship game Saturday at Owen County High School.

  • Carroll defeats Switzerland County for first win

    Just like last season, the Carroll County Panthers football team notched their first win of the season against Switzerland County. However, this is not the same Pacers team that the Panthers steamrolled in a 58-0 win last season. The Pacers picked up their first program win last week against Gallatin County, 32-0, and were looking to continue their winning streak at Carrollton.

    The Panthers’ defense led the charge as Carroll County won, 29-12.

  • Lady Panthers fall in All ‘A,’ 7-1

    The Lady Panthers soccer team (2-5) suffered a 7-1 loss to Walton-Verona in the All ‘A’ Tournament Sept. 1, at Panther Field. But head coach Josh Noble came away with positives from his team’s performance.

    “As a team, that was the best game we’ve ever played, [and we] played the best team we’re going to play this year,” he said.

  • Arney thanks library staff, community for help with SRP

    Labor Day represents the end of summer. Kids have been back to school for a couple of weeks, and we have been able to reflect on all of our accomplishments during our 2016 Summer Reading Program.

  • Poker run Sept. 10

    The annual Shop With A Cop poker run will be held Saturday, Sept. 10. The rain date is Sept. 17. The event is sponsored by Knights of the Road and the Carrollton Police Department.

    Sign-up will be from 9 a.m.-10:45 a.m. at General Butler State Resort Park. Kickstands up at 11 a.m.

  • Open house, membership drive Oct. 15

    The Port William Historical Society met on Aug. 30, at the Masterson House. There were 10 members in attendance plus two guests, Bob and Mary Ann Cook, who currently reside in Madison, Ind. Mrs. Cook is a distant descendant of Charles Carroll. They had an interest in learning about the area and touring the Masterson House.
