    The Carroll County High School drama club presented “The Outsiders,” a play based on the book of the same title by S. E. Hinton, March 23-25.

    The story is based in Tulsa, Okla., in 1965 and tells the story of two groups separated by social-economic status.

    The book is required reading for CCHS freshman students.

    The play was directed by CCHS teacher Alissa Vogelgesang.

  • Ky. Fish and Wildlife to test new fishing tournament rules

    The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will study the impact of allowing anglers participating in fishing tournaments to keep shorter bass in lakes with special regulations.

    The three-year test is limited to two spring and two fall tournaments each year on Lake Cumberland and Cave Run Lake.

  • Carroll spring sports kicks off with home tennis match

    The spring sports season is underway, as the Carroll County tennis teams opened their season with a home match against Grant County March 15, and an away match at Shelby County March 16. While Carroll County lost both matches, head coach Juan Fernandez said he was happy with the progress he is seeing out of his young players.

    Easter Nerf Showdown at Family Worship

    Family Worship Center, 2520 Hwy 227 in Carrollton will hold an Easter Nerf Showdown, 5-7 p.m. Saturday, March 31. Join the Easter Bunny in an epic Nerf Showdown! Ages 5 and up are welcome to participate. Nerf guns will be provided but you can bring your own if you prefer. Food, cotton candy, Give-A-Way and more will be provided. This event is free.   • Teacher Spotlight: Harper finds her home in the middle

    Maggie Harper’s choices were Cincinnati, Louisville or Carrollton. She chose Carrollton. A sixth-grade social studies teacher at Carroll County Middle School, Harper is in her second year of teaching.

    “Maggie quickly became someone we rely on,” Principal Dana Oak said. “She is a great team player and a great teacher. Our students are lucky to have her.”

  • Bevin makes plea on Facebook for pension overhaul

    Gov. Matt Bevin took to Facebook Saturday night, urging citizens to contact their legislators and ask them to address the ailing pension system for state workers.

    Bevin said in a four-minute Facebook video that the teachers’ retirement system will likely run out of money in 12 to 15 years unless structural changes are made.

    Students of the Month were nominated by their teachers and exemplified one or more of the following characteristics during the month of February: leadership, citizenship, responsibility, positivity, respect and academic achievement.
