    Carroll County Retired Teachers Association met on Friday, Nov. 21 at Two Rivers Restaurant with 13 members and a guest, Allen Schuler Fifth District president, in attendance.

  • Wright, Moravec married Dec. 6

    Matthew Darrell Wright and Naomi Elizabeth Moravec were united in marriage Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, at the Theilman Opera House near Wabasha, Minn., before family and friends from several states.

    Matt is the son of Darrell and Debbie Wright of Sanders, Ky. and Naomi is the daughter of Dan and MJ Moravec of Wabasha.

    Thursday, Dec. 11: Breakfast: chicken biscuit; lunch: rotini with meat sauce, breadstick, tossed salad, broccoli, grapes or applesauce.

    Friday, Dec. 12: Breakfast: cinnamon rolls; lunch: chicken patty with bun, lettuce, tomato, pickle, broccoli, baked beans, orange or peaches. Carroll County High School and middle school will offer: chicken filet with bun, peas.

  • CCHS Band Concert Dec. 12

    The Carroll County High School Band will perform its annual winter concert at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 14, in the high school gymnasium.

    The concert will include performances by the high school concert band, symphonic band, jazz band and steel band. Selections will include several band classics and a medley of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” “Silver Bells,” “Rudolph, The Red-nosed Reindeer” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”

  • Bombs away: Long’s five treys help propel Raiders to 15-point victory

    Trimble County’s experience and shooting were too much for Carroll County’s team to handle, winning on the road, 57-42, Dec. 4.

    The Raiders shot 54 percent from the field, compared to just 29 percent for the Panthers. Raiders senior Evan Long nailed six 3-pointers (5-6 in the first half) to lead all scorers with 19 points.

    Isaiah Hogan led the Panthers with 17 points, five rebounds and three steals.

  • Chance of a win slips away from Lady Panthers in fourth quarter

    The Trimble County Lady Raiders survived a second-half threat from host Carroll County Friday, Dec. 5, outscoring them 13-8 in the fourth quarter to win, 41-32. The Lady Panthers pulled within two points off a drive to the basket by Natalie Bennett in the fourth quarter’s opening seconds. Trimble went on a 9-2 run to secure their lead and then milked the clock for the win.

  • Panthers have balanced scoring effort in 60-40 win over Brown

    The Carroll County Panthers took care of business Tuesday night, defeating the visiting Brown Bears, 60-40, for their first win of the 2014-15 campaign.

    The Panthers connected from 3-point range early and jumped out to a 20-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. But the Bears would not go away quietly, starting the second quarter off on a 10-0 run. Panthers head coach Carroll Yager said his team became too content relying on the 3-point shot and stopped attacking the rim.
