  • Coach upbeat after 4th Panther loss

    Class 2-A powerhouse DeSales galloped out of Carrollton with an impressive win Friday. The Colts, ranked sixth in the state in 2-A, scored early and often en route to a 54-6 triumph over the Carroll County Panthers.

    “That’s the best opponent we’ve ever seen since I’ve been associated with this team, hands down. They’re very athletic,” Carroll County Head Coach Mike Weedman said.

    In spite of the lopsided decision, Weedman was upbeat in post-game comments to his team.

    Editor: Trimble County Emergency Search Unit held its fall training at Avalon nature reserve on Saturday, Oct 17, with 17 members attending.   • County awarded two homeland security grants

    Carroll County Judge-Executive Harold “Shorty” Tomlinson reports that he has received notification that the county has been awarded two grants which will be used to improve communications and purchase mobile data computers for local law enforcement. A third application was not funded.

    “Two out of three is not bad,” Tomlinson said.

  • New evaluation system targets classroom tech

     “For something to get done, you have to monitor what is being done and look for ways to do it better,” Assistant Superintendent Bill Hogan said, prefacing his explanation of a new system of evaluating class work during the Oct. 22 meeting of the Carroll County Board of Education.

    The new system of evaluating lesson plans and goals, the use of technology in the classroom and what type of information is being taught is accomplished through what Hogan called “eWalk.”

  • Council asks P&Z to clarify home occupation ordinance

     “We’ve got to make our mind up and move.” These words from Carrollton City Councilman Mike Gordon at the Oct. 12 city council meeting appear to sum up the feelings of both the city council and planning and zoning commission about the home occupation ordinance.

    After months of discussion and debate, council recommended Monday night that P&Z address the wording of the ordinance to clearly define that a garage must share a common wall, and detached garages are not allowed.
