A Worthville man has been arrested and charged with cruelty to animals, second-degree, in connection with the alleged confinement of more than 200 animals in less than optimal conditions.

Donnie R. Cannon was arraigned before District Court Judge Thomas M. Funk on Oct. 7. Cannon was released from the Carroll County Regional Detention Center after posting bail. He faces a court date on Oct. 22. The misdemeanor charge is punishable by up to 12 months in jail and a $500 fine, if he is found guilty.

Property tax bills have been delivered to households in Carroll County, but land owners may have already noticed a change. The bills have been simplified, and there are a few other modifications property owners should be made aware of before heading down to the courthouse this year.

Engines roar and gasoline fumes fill the crisp night air at the Carroll County Fairgrounds Saturday for the 2009 Fall Brawl. A favorite for many locals, the event also brings guests from out of town who love to see and hear the crunch of metal on metal.

“It draws a lot of people from out of town to the community,” Kevin Craig, president of the Carroll County Fair Board, said. “They come from Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee, everywhere for our demo derbies. They really enjoy them.”

Anyone walking along Highland Avenue, visiting any office in the Carroll County courthouse, or shopping at any number of businesses downtown could expect a report on the projected atmospheric conditions from a personable gentleman many knew as the “weather man.” It didn’t matter if it was your first encounter with Eldon Brown. He knew no strangers.
