Success is possible both in and out of the classroom. Just ask Angela Woods.

Woods, a senior at Carroll County High School, has achieved some of the highest standardized testing scores in the state of Kentucky while still being actively involved in school and community activities.

“I’m very grateful for all the people who have helped me along the way,” Woods said. “I couldn’t have done it without my parents and teachers and (guidance counselor) Ms. (Sheree) Richter.”

A prince with crazy break-dance moves? Three stepsisters named Matilda, Griselda and Frump? A Fairy Godfather? This is definitely not the traditional “Cinderella” story.

Carroll County Middle School’s first-year drama club presents a modernized, comedic version of the classic fairy tale at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $3 for adults, $1 for students.

“I wanted a story that was familiar to them, but that we could show in a new way because this is their first experience with theater for most of them,” director Whitney Christensen said.

Carroll County High School girls’ head coach and athletic director Randy Mefford is looking ahead to the 2009-2010 basketball season with great enthusiasm.

“Our strengths will be experience and the fact that our girls like each other,” Mefford said. “They are very coachable which makes it fun to be around them.”
