  • Relevant Church to host Red Cross blood drive

    The American Red Cross is looking for eligible donors of all types to give blood to help avert a shortage. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients.

    Red Cross blood donations may be made from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 27, at Relevant Church, 2505 Highland Ave., Carrollton.

    A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in.

    Hello once again, my friends. Once more I come to you from the frigid arctic plains of Kentucky. Despite all of our good intentions, we still can’t seem to escape the inevitable forces of nature. Yes, I’m being Mister Obvious and talking about how cold it is, despite the fact that no one really wants to hear that the weather is going to continue its trend for the next couple of weeks. But, I’m over it now, so I’m moving on to a topic we all love: food.

  • Cold temperatures can damage, kill alfalfa field crops

    Concern always arises in cold periods over winter about the effect of the low temperatures on alfalfa winter survival. This is of some concern because certainly the alfalfa plant will die if exposed to cold enough temperatures.

    However, generally alfalfa survives the winter and its periodic cold spells. The folowwing are reasons why:

    • Alfalfa can survive temperatures of -10 degrees to -15 degrees.

    • This is the temperature of the crown not the topgrowth.

  • Quilting class offer in March

    Have you always wished you knew how to quilt? We have an answer for you as the Carroll County Cooperative Extension Service and the Carroll County Public Library join together to conduct a four-week beginning quilting series on Tuesdays from March 4-25 from 4-6 p.m. at the Carroll County Extension office.

  • With a little training, owners can understand what dogs have to say

    If you have a dog that you would like to be trained, please mark March 29 on your calendar and attend the first meeting of the year of the 4-H dog club.

    Lions Club meets at noon at Butler Park lodge.

    Carroll County Board of Education meets at 5 p.m. in the high school library.

    Carroll County High School football boosters meet at 6 p.m. at the high school media center.

    Narcotics Anonymous meets at 6:30 p.m. every Thursday at Carrollton Christian Church, 310 Fifth St.

  • Church News | Feb. 27, 2014

    Relevant sets soup supper for Feb. 28

    Relevant Church,  2505 Highland Ave., Carrollton, will hold a soup supper from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 28.

    The menu will include chili, potato, taco, vegetable, bean and broccoli soups, along with sandwiches, chips, desserts and drinks. Donations will be accepted.

    Ash Wednesday set at 6:30 p.m., March 6

    Carrollton United Methodist Church, 310 Highland Ave., will have a Service of the Imposition of Ashes at 6:30 p.m. on Ash Wednesday, March 5.
