  • Former Carroll resident joins Cincinnati tax-law practice

    Joy L. Hall, formerly of Carroll County, Ky., has Strauss & Troy are as an associate at the firm, which specializes in tax law.

    “Ms. Hall’s professional experience in tax and white-collar criminal defense is a welcome addition to this growing practice-area,” said Strauss & Troy President Jim Heldman.

    Hall brings nearly 10 years of practice to the firm, with a concentration in federal, state and local tax issues, including audits, collection matters and fraud.

    She has expertise in white-collar criminal defense.

  • Peanut butter fudge cookies really ‘To Die for’

    What a wonderful  Independence Day celebration we had at the home of Joe and Sandy Beall in Ghent on Saturday, July 2.

    They do this every year and we feel so privileged to be on their guest list. It has become such  a tradition that even our grandson, Justin, doesn’t want to miss out on all of the festivities and food. Joe and Sandy plan months ahead for this big event – actually, I can honestly say a year in advance. We have already received our “pre-invite” for July 7, 2012.

  • Carroll County Fiscal Court briefs - July 13, 2011

    Court approves first reading for reapportionment plan

    By of a vote of 2-1, Carroll County Fiscal Court approved the first reading Tuesday of the ordinance to accept, in its entirety, recommendations from the reapportionment committee.

    Magistrate Dean Miller cast the dissenting vote, because he said he was not ready to accept the results.

    Miller said he has no problem with what the three-member committee did, but said he wants to see the numbers from the 2010 U.S. census that explains why the changes are needed in the first place.

  • A volunteer experiences race mania

    I spent a good part of Saturday at the Kentucky Speedway as a volunteer for the Carroll County Animal Support Group. Our volunteers manned the tram stops Friday evening and from 8 a.m. till 9 p.m. Saturday. 

    It was an easy job, but oh so hot. I must say, I have never seen people work so hard to have fun.

    Due to low response, the Basic Canning Workshop planned for this Thursday, July 14, at the Carroll County Exten-sion office is cancelled.

    I will teach a Mini-Canning work-shop from 5-8 p.m. Thurs-day, July 21, at the Exten-sion office. Cost is $5.

    Call (502) 732-7030 to register, and please pre-register so that we have enough materials on hand.
