  • Richter, Sabatini to wed Oct. 19

    Mr. and Mrs. Arthur and Sheree Richter of Carrollton announce the upcoming wedding of their daughter Erin Elizabeth Richter of Washington, D.C.  to Richard John Sabatini of Washington D.C., son of Dr. and Mrs. John and Candy Sabatini of Culver City, Calif.

    The ceremony will take place, at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at the Stonewall Golf Club in Gainesville, Va.

  • After school program offered for children

    Carroll County Parks and Recreation Department will offer an after school program for students who plan on attending the Lighthouse programs, which begins Sept. 3.

    The program will be for students age 4 through those who attend fifth grade. Cost is $25 per week or $7 per day.

    All children in the program must be picked up daily by 5:30 p.m.

    Once the Lighthouse program begins, parks and recreation will offer its program on Fridays for $10.

  • Poker Run for kids set for Aug. 18 at Warsaw

    The fourth annual Christmas in August Poker Run, will be held, Sunday, Aug. 18 to benefit the Carroll County Ministerial Association.

    The ride starts and ends at Sunset Grill in Warsaw, Ky.

    Registration will be from 10:30-11:45 a.m. Cost is $5 per rider, $5 for extra poker hand and $1 per bike.

    After the ride, there will be free food, door prizes, raffle items and 50/50 split the pot will be offered.

    A rain date has been set for Sunday, Aug. 25. For information call: Kenny Jones (502) 513-2450.

  • Girl Scouts to register members Aug. 20

    Carroll County Girl Scouts registration night will be Tuesday, Aug. 20, starting at 5 p.m. at the Carroll County Park.

    There will be a parent meeting from 5-6 p.m. followed by a pool party for the girls from 6-8 p.m.

  • Wright named ‘AgriScience Ambassador’

    Mackenzie Wright of Carrollton successfully completed the 11th annual DuPont National AgriScience Teachers Ambassador Academy at the company’s Chesapeake Farms in Chestertown, Md. Upon receiving the certificate of completion, she became an “Ag Ambassador,” joining the 228 other outstanding teachers who, over the last decade, have attended NATAA and earned that designation.

    Wright is the agriscience teacher at Switzerland County High School in Vevay, Ind.

    Most of us think little of the breaks that come through our friends and—equally important—our friends’ friends. And unless you have lived outside a social web of family and friends, you cannot appreciate how many doors and experiences never open because of who are not your friends.

    Menu is subject to change due to availability of food, breakfast is offered daily, milk, juice, toast, cereal.

    Student breakfast costs $1.25 and student lunch costs $2. Adult breakfast costs $2.25 and adult lunch costs $3.25.

    Wednesday, Aug. 7: Turkey and cheese sub, baked beans, broccoli, carrots and grapes; breakfast:  mini pancakes.

    Thursday, Aug. 8: Chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, roll and fruit; breakfast: Bacon, egg and cheese biscuit.

    Friday, Aug. 9: Sloppy Joe, potato wedges, kale and fruit; breakfast: Donuts.

  • Future Farmers attend leadership training center

    On July 22-26, Carroll County High School FFA chapter, along with 23 different chapters from across Kentucky, attended FFA Leadership Training Center in Hardinsburg. There were 319 students and advisors that went to the fifth annual training for chapter officers and committee members.

    Each member of the Carroll County FFA officer team participated in classes to help train them in the most effective methods of running a chapter.
