    That was the message delivered Friday to U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell by local experts, law enforcement agencies and even one recovering heroin addict.

Champions for a Drug Free Carroll County hosted the event.

    Families of children who receive Christmas gifts from the Christmas Connection and Shop With a Cop face a March 30 deadline to sign up for classes to qualify them to be considered for the 2014 programs.

    “We have a lot of people in need,” Leigh Ann Roberts, who spearheads the Christmas Connection for the Carroll County Ministerial Association, said in a Thursday interview.

  • Tentative dates announced for upcoming closure and slide of Milton-Madison Bridge

    Closure of the Milton-Madison Bridge is tentatively scheduled to occur Friday, March 14 at 12:01 a.m. with all lanes shut down until Friday, March 21 at approximately noon. Traffic will be reduced to one lane beginning at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, in order to move equipment into place. During this time, a flagger will allow traffic in each direction to pass. Inclement weather and other factors could alter the schedule.

    A Carroll County man has been arrested and charged with the murder of his 2-year-old son. 

    In a news release Saturday, Kentucky State Police said Douglas Allen, 26, of Ghent was

    charged in connection with the Feb. 19 death of his son.

    Amanda Foster, Douglas Allen’s girlfriend and the victim’s mother, called 9-1-1 at 6:43 a.m. on the morning of Feb. 19 telling dispatchers the child had been discovered dead in his

    bed.

  • Jefferies charged with DUI, assault in connection with Hwy. 36 car wreck

    Kentucky State Police Trooper Dave Roberts arrested Donald Jefferies, 50, of Goshen, March 6, and charged him with DUI and three counts of first-degree assault, according to a state police news release.
