  • Veterans, flags should have led way in parade

    Editor:

    I would like to thank all volunteers involved in planning and working our 2009 Tobacco Festival and Parade (job well done).

    It was very heart-breaking to see pageants and ATV’s lead the parade before the American Flag, veterans and active duty soldiers.

    Has it come to the point that beauty is more important than our freedom?

    Our Carroll County Band of Gold was placed toward the end of the parade. Do we not support our schools anymore? These kids missed a competition so that they could march in their hometown parade.

  • Renovation plans move ahead at Cartmell

    Carroll County Board of Education viewed the latest floor layout and exterior elevation renderings of the upcoming renovation of the Richard B. Cartmell Elementary School at its meeting Thursday. The renovation, set to begin in January, is necessary due to overcrowding issues at the facility.

    John Gilbert, representing RossTarrant Architects, a Lexington firm, brought samples of exterior materials for the board members to examine. The existing exterior materials will be removed and replaced with limestone and metal, according to Cartmell Principal Doug Oak.

  • TCMS cross-country squad undefeated

    Special to The Banner The Trimble County Middle/Elementary School Cross Country team traveled to the state capital last Wednesday to compete in the Frankfort Archives All-Comers Meet. Anyone may volunteer their time and talents to help repair homes for the elderly and disabled in Trimble County.
