  • State making progress on health issues

Of all the challenges Kentucky can expect to face in the years ahead, few if any are bigger than improving our collective health.

In some key areas, we already have a good head start.  Kentucky is among the top 20 states in fighting infectious diseases, for example, with the use of vaccines high and the percentage of older citizens getting a flu shot above the national average.

  • Take a little time to make your home more fire safe

When I am asked to write or talk about fire prevention, I take the request very seriously due to the importance of the material being presented. Unfortunately, like everyone else, I am human and the writing deadlines seem to always creep up on me, just like this week. However, for once, I believe the tight time frame has helped me with this week’s fire prevention topic.

  • Lady Panthers golf team ready to compete in 2013 season

The Carroll County High School golf teams have a new home this season: Fairway Golf Course in Wheatly, Ky. and Perry Park Country Club in Perry Park, Ky.

Athletic Director Paul Stone said Tuesday that the matches moved from General Butler State Resort Park because Fairway and Perry Park offer more holes – 18 at Fairway and 27 at Perry Park – as well as a driving range, both of which are beneficial to the players. It also was easier to schedule matches there.

  • ‘Of course I’m right’

Years ago I wrote a book about idols, which is just another word for sin.

An idol is whatever you turn to first — a person, possession, position, relationship, substance, belief or experience — for comfort, security, identity, meaning, etc. Basically, anything other than God.

As I wrote the book, I got halfway through it and decided I was tired of being smacked upside the head with my own idolatry.

Sheesh. All I wanted to do was write about other people’s idols/sin and make a boatload of money.
